Actually, in the UK a lot of washing machines are also dryers. Or, should I say, "dryers," because at best they get your clothes hot and damp. So you then have to hang them out to dry on your clothes airer, which kind of negates the point of having a dryer in the first place. My first few washer dryer cycles as an expat were very confusing indeed...
Jane, could you find it in your heart to give a slightly more in-depth explanation of your kickass flapper hair? I'm currently in a show that takes place in the 1920s, and I'm trying to convince the costume designer that she doesn't need to chop my hair into a bob to make me look like I'm living in the correct decade. Pretty please?
Any thoughts on whether the late August/early September guideline remains true if you want to travel in, say, mid-September? Should I wait 10 days in the hopes that fares go down, or buy now in case it gets more expensive the closer I get to the day I need to travel? Help meeee.
@themegnapkin Oh my gosh, this. I'm going through a kinda shitty time in my life right now (got kicked out of a foreign country that I loved, realized that the degree I got in that country doesn't really matter in this one, complete and utter panic that I've wasted the last 6 years of my life), and the one thing that my father can say that really makes me blow my fuse is "It's all going to turn out okay." Really? REALLY!?!? You. Don't. Know. That. Lots of people have bad stuff happen to them, they live lives of quiet frustration, and then they die. This is not Oprah, we do not all get cars.
Ahem. Really good essay though... ::runs away::
@melis Umm, I may or may not have an audition tomorrow morning for a historical interpreter job at an estate in Northern Virginia. As an underemployed actor (and former English major, hey oh!), the idea that someone might pay me money to dress up in pretty clothes and hang around 200+ year old furniture is just. Too. Much.
@Fayebelline I felt very torn about that series; on the one hand I had a friend in it (he played Anjelica Fanshaw's first husband) and it had a ton of excellent British actors in it, but on the other it almost felt like a fanfiction wish-fulfillment project instead of a historical miniseries. But then there's Michael Fassbender! In the nude! Ergo, torn.
@BethH Yessssss! Please oh please viewing party in the DC area! I've just moved back to the area after 5 years in London, so I've got Yorkshire tea just waiting to be steeped! Costumesssss!
