Oh my god, I WASN'T the only one with a major crush on Jonathan Brandis??? He was my #1 love for so very, very many years. Brb, adding SeaQuest to my Netflix queue.
@The Lady of Shalott Another survivor here. I really thought it would be fun, I really did. It was not. But the day of was GREAT. And I slowly starting to be able to talk about the planning in less-than-bitter terms.
Probably gearing up for a home renovation now, which again I am convinced will be GREAT. Check back in in 6 months.
@odd number Zappos actually has a pretty good selection of quick-dry clothing, and so does Eddie Bauer. Without more details of your particular situation it's hard to say, but personally, I find that dresses/skirts stretch a lot further than pants/shirts. Of course if all you're doing is hiking, etc., that probably won't do.
@Emma Peel I'm in a similar situation, though for different reasons -- "unfriended" (IRL) a woman somewhat suddenly last year, as she was going through a very bad period in her life and lashed out at me in a way I could no longer handle (it was repetitive behavior on her part to lash out, she has poor coping mechanisms). I feel immense guilt about the fact that we're no longer friends, and have on several occasions thought about rekindling things, but... I honestly don't want to. I don't want to be friends with her any more. Are we obligated to be friends with people we genuinely don't like? I don't think so. We could both have probably dealt with the situation better, but I don't know that there's a way to apologize and simultaneously maintain the current status quo. So.
@Steph I am curious to know the kind of work that requires you to go to northern Lapland in the winter.
@garli Sounds like my cookware collection.
@Scandyhoovian As long as you're down, you'll be fine. For some reason I was not drugged, just given topical anesthetic, which made me start shaking uncontrollably, and then they told me that I was just anxious, and then I had a horribly painful and terrifying extraction where they had to physically hold me down. But yeah, everyone who got the actual laughing gas was fine.
@packedsuitcase I think that if you take them to a reputable shoe repair person and ask them if they can stretch them, you'll get the best answer. Look for someone really well-reviewed (easier if you live in a major city). I bought my first pair of Frye's this winter and love them. I looked for an alternative for literally about two years before giving in. I have the opposite problem -- super narrow calves -- but I found a style that didn't gape badly. I was originally planning to have them tailored. They were snug in other parts of my foot, but have since stretched to fit perfectly. Yay Frye!
That note made me tear up a little. RIP Abby :(
@garli 8 surfboards!! OK, I feel better now :D
