I haven't seen anyone mention this, and it's late, but here is where I posted my awful synopsis and got my answer: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_folder/2198?format=html&page=1
@ALL - I posted this on the goodreads "what's the name of that book" and got my answer! It is "The Mistress of Mellyn" http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/211953.Mistress_of_Mellyn
I'll have to re-read, but it sounds like it may not hold up. Thanks so much to everyone!
@Little Miss Bossy ahhhhhh....maybe? The title doesn't ring any bells, but the cover art and the name "Miriam" kind of does?!? I will have to ask my Mom if she remembers this, as I'm sure it was a book of hers. In any case, it's on my wish list! thanks!
@SarahP That one came up in my google search (basically ALL that I could come up with) and that's not it :(
I have one I have been trying to figure out for months - I thought it was Cashelmara, but recently re-read and it is not. I don't *think* it's Rebecca, but what I remember sounds similar.
There is a governess? Of maybe 2 children, living in Ireland or Scotland, maybe. And the father is a creepy, older, angry man? And then she marries him, I think, and then the big old house they live in is haunted? Maybe by the mother of the children....Arrggh, it is driving me up the wall trying to remember it, and I've googled to no avail. I read it when I was 13 or 14, but I feel like it was an adult book. Help?
@Clare really late with this, but what once worked for me is saying "I've received a balance transfer offer from another of my cards with a much lower rate...I don't want to go through the hassle but I will if I cannot get my rate lowered" All I had at the time was an "offer" for a lower rate card if I applied, but it worked.
@atipofthehat now this is just getting radicchio-lous
@The Everpresent Wordsnatcher I said this upthread, but it bears repeating: Louisiana Crawfish Company will ship live crawfish to youuuuuu!!! They even have party packs that come with Mardi Gras beads (but really, just get the crawfish and a shitload of cajun spice)
@noReally Louisiana Crawfish Co usually has them for about $6.00 lb, but you've gotta get a 10 lb bag....I've gotten the pre-cooked ones from them and they were great, but of course they ship the live ones, too! Highly recommend them.
oooh, timely! I was just going to send a question in to AaCP, but maybe I'll crowdsource? I have a few different pairs of sandals that bleed (?) onto my feet, so that when i take them off, the strap marks are there, black and grody. I think it's partially dirt, partially the leather (or pleather, some of them are cheap) but the outcome is that I cannot take off my sandals in public / have to wash my feetsies as soon as I take them off. Any ideas on how to prevent? I don't feel like my feet are overly sweaty, and it happens whether I have them on for an hour or 8. Halp!
