On Really Good Books About Real People: Part Four

@Decca I have not read it, but it's on my (very long) list. ONE day I will not be editing for a living and will be able to read again. Sigh.

Anyway, Orwell's Shooting an Elephant is absolutely amazing, and I completely recommend it especially to anyone who lives in a Commonwealth/Post imperialist country, or has lived as a white/foreign person in China (or similar, but I can only speak to China). I fill both categories, and the seanachai version of it really HIT me and stayed with me. It is a perfect perfect description of those weird subtexts and realtionships.

On "Take a Step That Is New..."

YES!

I love everyone, but I am always the most delighted by Nicole's articles. I feel like all the contributors are friends and acquaintances, but I want to be Nicole's Bestie. IS THAT WEIRD?!

On Apropos of Nada

@carolita I spluttered when I read this. All this dropping little facts into casual conversation. SPUTTERED.

On Apropos of Nada

@carolita My friend has a similar looking terrier type dog called Henry. I call him Henri because he looks so serious and French, ya know? Anyway, said friend likes to make him do flips, he puts his hands around Henry's torso and whoosh, off he goes. That dog LOVES it. It's amazing to watch.

On Apropos of Nada

@Bitterblue I used to be a complainer. I still am, often. But I made a real effort a few years ago to not be so miserable all the damn time (jeez!) because it was boring, and I stopped hanging out with all my complainer friends. I realised just yesterday that now I have some pretty great stories, many of which started out as complaints!

On Greek Gods Defending Their Roles in the Current Economic Crisis

@Slapfight I am scared of Dionysus. We did the Bacchae in High School and as much as I love a good cross-dressing scene, that was TERRIFYING. And I find that scene in The Game to be disproportionately chilling. I wonder what that says about me?

Semi-related: I did a crossword where the answer to 'god of love' was 'Cupid'. I don't think I need to explain to this crowd how that made me feel, do I?

On Something Something Canada

@This is my new username I think Nathan Fillion might be my personal kryptonite. SO ATTRACTIVE. And hilarious. But I think irl he would be exhausting. Although come to think of it, my boyfriend is basically his personality twin. Exhausting.

Maybe I'll go watch Slither again. I have yet to watch Castle, which my sister is trying to get me to do. Is it worth it?
