@brooklynbranch Totally agreed. She makes a lot of great points and I agree with 95% of what she says here, but I wish she was a little less defensive when it comes to more "literary" women writers. I'm not defending any of their arguments either, but when you're as big a success as she is, you can afford to let that stuff roll off you.
@Lucienne Right? RIGHT? That's pretty much my only beef with TVD -- not enough acknowledgement of the homoeroticism WE ALL KNOW is there. I still can't believe Katherine and Rebekah never made out during their mean girl road trip.
@themegnapkin I have to credit one of my friends for coming up with that comparison! I laughed so hard I cried.
@bonymaroni I'm with you. The sentiment here seems to be "I don't see what all the fuss is about," and I think we can all remember a celebrity who we felt that way about. And you'd go to a party and be like "UGH why are we talking about ______ again, he/she is NOT THAT HOT." And then you realize that you're never going to argue anyone out of their attraction to Kirsten Dunst or Bobby Flay or whoever because it's a freaking OPINION, and you get over it. The End.
@Lucienne Stefan is definitely at his best when he's being evil or fun-loving or some combination thereof, no question. But even then, I just don't find him attractive in the slightest. My friends and I are all Team Damon and I've been curious for awhile if there's anyone out there who's Team Stefan (I guess so!).
In fairness, I think the male cast of Vampire Diaries is hotter than everyone else in the world put together [ETA: except for Paul Wesley, who we all know is actually Muppet Angel]. Bumberflap is an interesting-looking man who I like to watch do stuff, but that's not a fair fight.
Also Danny Trejo LOL
Best line: "I just sat down and sewed myself into 'em." Amazing!
@polka dots vs stripes if you're feeling experimental, I cannot recommend Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab enough. I actually discovered them on the Hairpin! Their website (blackphoenixalchemylab.com) is a bit overwhelming at first, but if you have some idea of what you're looking for, you can order sample packs and try a bunch of new things, which I find really fun.
@Oliver St. John Mollusc and just to clarify, I was 24 when I took his class and I'm 33 now. I think he's in his late 40s? So it's not really creepy but I generally don't date older men or authority figures so I'm probably more weirded out by the idea than most girls would be.
@celeec4@twitter I just downloaded this little iOS game called Clumsy Ninja and it is so cute I can't even deal. I was trying to play it surreptitiously at work but I had to stop because I was squealing and like, cry-laughing. *throws self away*
Sooo, back when I was in grad school eight-ish years ago, I had a gigundo crush on one of my professors. Apparently lots of other girls had crushes on him too so this did not make me special. BUT now we're friends on Facebook and he sent me this message yesterday that was like "I'm really glad you found me on Facebook because I really enjoy your posts and I find myself thinking 'that Oliver St. John Mollusc is such a funny, interesting girl, I wish I knew her better!'" GAAAAH! This was completely un-prompted by anything on my part, either now or back then, and I'm kind of dying of happiness. Not that I think anything will actually come out of it, but just because it's so validating to have a former crush be like "heeeey, I like you!"
