Gauguin was a stockbroker. He lost his job and money in a huge market crash. Since he couldn't support his wife and 5 kids, she moved to Copenhagen where she could work and you know speak to people. He went with her but considered his sales job there beneath him and moved to Paris with one of his kids, promising to put the kid in school. But he doesn't until his sister agrees to pay for it. Then a bunch of art happens. At some point he knocks up his mistress and ditches everyone (mistress, wife, kids etc.) for Tahiti. More art happens. He runs out of money. He has at least 2 more kids. Dies. Gigantic scrub, plus a total juicebox.
