On Interview with a Santeria Priestess

This was so interesting! Thanks to you both, I learned a lot. The song is pretty much the only other exposure I've ever had to Santeria/Lucumi, so it was super excellent to learn more.

Anyone have any good kids' book recs? I'm newly an aunt and want to cultivate my mini-feminist niece even though she can't talk yet.

@mystique It's definitely odd to realize how much of a website like this is actually down to the editor -- maybe Edith is the 'Pin and the 'Pin is Edith. But it's also the commenters -- I finally found a full-time job a few months ago and I haven't been able to comment much, not like I ever did. But I just looked at the front page and only 6 of the 14 posts have double-digit numbers of comments, which seems sad. (Although also, no email notifications is a real drag and probably some part of it.)

I'm not ready to give up yet because there are still a lot of things I like....change is just hard! @mystique, I agree that I'd rather read personal essays about newsy topics rather than link roundups, but I recognize that it's tough to find all those writers and edit all those essays. I dunno, things are definitely changing around here but it makes me sad that people are being so negative. Maybe we should all write some personal essays and send them in.

@Onymous That's a good idea, but I worry that I'd take them home to wash them and forget to bring them back? I don't know why the idea of not washing the slippers seems better, though. That's an odd question. Maybe I'll try the socks before I commit to a pair of slippers!

@polka dots vs stripes ooh those look nice! I hadn't thought of LL Bean!

My office is freezing all the time, and my poor feeties turn into icicles. Anyone have any suggestions of good slippers that I can keep at the office? Something that looks a lot like shoes -- I dunno if "professional slippers" is even a thing, but I just need something that's not bunny slippers or Ugg boots.
