The Fairpayettes

Meanwhile, opportunities for losing money abounded. When one woman accidentally made contact with a Sharpie at a calendar signing and wasn't able to bleach out the stain, Lacy says the woman was forced to reimburse the team for an expensive new top. If a Raiderette failed to bring her pompoms to practice or showed up late, among dozens of other infractions, she would be required to pay a fine of $10 to $125. But the biggest threat to the cheerleaders' incomes came at weigh-ins. After practices, women were called in for one-on-one meetings with Thompson, who would point out problem areas on candid photographs, circling any suggestion of cellulite [...]

My Case With Accutane

“Have you or a loved one ever taken Accutane?”

These ambulance-chasing infomercials sound like a total sham until they suddenly apply to you.

“Have you or a loved one ever taken Accutane?”

My ears were still half-tuned out when I realized, why yes, yes I had.

“Then you may be eligible for a large sum of money.”

Go on…

“Accutane has been proven to cause serious side effects such as Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.”

Like Sugar Pills But Less Sweet

Perhaps certain happy pills would work better if they were not a series of contaminated things smooshed together into the shape of a pill?

M.I.A. On the NFL: "It’s a Massive Display of Powerful Corporation Dick-Shaking"

Remember decades ago, when M.I.A. flipped the bird at the camera during the Super Bowl halftime show and the stadium experienced a simultaneous blackout so we were spared the sight of her nipple? Oh wait, I'm mixing up my catastrophes: It was February 2012 when M.I.A. waved her middle finger at America; it was last week when we learned that the NFL was suing the singer for $1.5 million and a public apology, claiming that she'd breached an agreement to uphold the league's "reputation for wholesomeness" (we don't have to say much more about that, aside from "LOL, K").

Anyway, M.I.A. [...]

Is Jessica Simpson's Secret Unreleased Workout Video The Ring?

Apparently Jessica Simpson filmed a workout video six years ago but went to court to make sure it never got released. The tape now has a new owner, however, and he's threatening to finally release it, claiming that the "recent judgment in favor of Jessica Simpson is moot and has no teeth," and that he believes he "can distribute the new video from California." What?

But mostly oh no, get out of California!

Anyway, you guys, I found a cool video online. It's kinda weird, but I wanted to show it to you. Will you come watch it with me? I wanted to know if you'd come over and [...]

Pics or It Didn't Happen

Long after the last of the cake has grown stale and the tossed bouquet has wilted, the photos endure, stirring memories and providing vivid proof that the day of one’s dreams took place. So it is not particularly surprising that one groom, disappointed with his wedding photos, decided to sue. The photographers had missed the last dance and the bouquet toss, the groom, Todd J. Remis of Manhattan, said… And not only has Mr. Remis demanded to be repaid the $4,100 cost of the photography, he also wants $48,000 to recreate the entire wedding and fly the principals to New York so the celebration can be re-shot by another photographer. Re-enacting the [...]

Four-Year-Old to Be Held Accountable for Bike Assault

The girl with training wheels who ran down an old woman on the sidewalk last year can now officially be sued, says a Manhattan judge. The victim, who was “seriously and severely injured,” died three weeks later.

Sad from start to finish, this story.
