Maybe it was the stories about Keratin hair smoothing treatments full of formaldehyde, or reading about the unregulated billion-dollar beauty industry in books like 'Not Just a Pretty Face' (Stacy Malkan) and 'No More Dirty Looks' (Siobhan O'Connor and Alexandra Spunt), or maybe it was just a natural result of knowing someone in chemotherapy, and how they had to treat themselves like a person in a bubble, sensitive to all sorts of toxins.
