The Shonda Rhimes Thursday Night Takeover

Here's the trailer for Shonda Rhimes's latest show, How to Get Away With Murder, starring Viola Davis and looking, already, wonderfully dramatic ("The body stays where it is!" "No, the body is what gets us caught!"). Davis appears to be a perfect candidate for Rhimes's third twisted sister, and the show cements the showrunner's (deserved) ABC takeover:

ABC is tweaking its efforts to climb out of fourth place, and Shonda Rhimes is a big part of it. The showrunner, who just inked a new overall deal, is getting a three-drama block on Thursday nights in the network's most ambitious move of the fall 2014-15 season.

Did Anybody Watch Off the Map?

Off the Map, ABC's Shonda Rhimes-produced tropical doctor show, premiered on Wednesday night and was aired again last night following Grey's Anatomy to try to pull in some viewers from that show, and also because the official premiere Wednesday was interrupted by President Obama's memorial speech for the victims of the Tucson shooting. Did anybody watch it either time? This first episode seemed like an overly dramatic scene-setting labor of love, but then, premieres have to go big, so if you forget its self-consciousness for a minute, was it any good?

Scandal and Grey's Anatomy: Shonda Rhimes' Twisted Sisters

Deep into its tenth season, Grey's Anatomy remains a well-performing prime time network television show, despite its reputation for being a stale, populist soap opera. Meanwhile Scandal, Shonda Rhimes' other baby, has earned much more critical approval. As a fan of both shows, it feels unfair that they are judged so unevenly. As Scandal wraps up its most grandiose, most clutch-the-pearls season yet, it’s worth considering how little really separates Olivia Pope and her DC underworld from Meredith Grey and her quaint Pac-Northwest hospital. They are both lovable, flawed characters taking a rather circuitous route to independence and stability.

Both shows share an affinity for over-the-top disaster plots and heart-wrenching [...]

"Examples of Teen Female Sexualization"

Oh, Parents Television Council: so OTM if what you are trying to achieve with this video is to gross people out. This montage, featuring clips primarily from CW shows like 90210 and Gossip Girl, but also Glee and a few unidentifiable others (what do I know), is part of their grumpy report on the oversexualization of underage women on teen-and-up programming.

Horrible Things That Have Happened to Doctors on "Grey's Anatomy" Since 2005

(spoilers, but not really, because Shonda will kill them all in the end, despite their weeping and clawing at life)

Meredith Grey: Meredith's mother, who was a chilly and neglectful parent, has Alzheimer's. Meredith falls in love with a handsome surgeon, Derek, who breaks her heart when he reveals that he has a very beautiful wife, Addison, who is an even better surgeon. Meredith has an unsatisfying reunion with her father, Thatcher, who has a new and better family now. Meredith acts out by sleeping with her friend George, but cries during sex and breaks his heart. Meredith's dog dies. Meredith falls briefly in love with a bomb technician, but [...]
