Hugo Schwyzer quit the Internet yesterday. The self-described male feminist wrote about facials and pulling tampons out of ex-wives. He tried to kill his girlfriend and is on his fourth marriage. He has been published regularly, most recently at The Atlantic and Jezebel. On Twitter, he regularly searched his name and would passive-aggressively favorite unflattering mentions of himself.
No longer. Schwyzer also announced he would cease teaching a class on pornography at Pasadena City College, where he is a tenured instructor. He then immediately took part in an utterly bizarre interview with The Cut's Kat Stoeffel, in which he said things like, [...]
Jennifer Weiner is a #1 New York Times bestselling writer whose eleventh novel All Fall Down came out yesterday. All Fall Down’s protagonist is Allison, a housewife whose respectable suburban existence conceals a growing addiction to pills. (Like Orphan Black's excellent character who shares her name, this Allison is also funny, shockingly capable and occasionally more than slightly delusional.) I read the book straight through without putting it down once, over the course of a sunny Sunday morning, and talked to Weiner over email afterward.
Your newest protagonist is a blogger! She writes for a sex and relationships site called Ladiesroom.com, and part of her excuse for her pill habit [...]
First, graduate college. Congrats, you did it. Read a bunch of trend pieces about how the economy is in the crapper and thousands of college graduates are moving home with mom and dad. Consider the prospect of moving into your childhood bedroom with the flimsy wood paneling, where you can hear your parents rutting vigorously in the next room. Still in love after all these years.
Panic, have stress diarrhea. You're on the precipice, although you don't know it yet. For a short while longer you'll still be a virgin. Your Search Engine Optimization hymen is intact and would be worth 100, even 200 goats in some areas of [...]
This is part of a week-long series celebrating the 45th birthdays of characters from Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.
Toby started her first blog in 1999. “Toby’s Take” was hosted on Live Journal and, at its peak, was getting about 10,000 celebrity-loving hits a day (though this was before any good analytics were available to average internet users). It was filled with her lengthy writeups of celebrity sightings, scanned autographs, and photos she snapped on her own. On most weekday mornings you could find Toby prowling the streets of Hollywood with headshots and a camera and blank sheets of paper trying to get her favorite (any) celebrity’s photo, autograph, and [...]
At noon eastern today you can watch a live stream of me and Sophia Rossi of HelloGiggles and a bunch of other ladies chattin' about bloggin' at the Lucky Fashion and Beauty Blogger conference. Then again, you may not want to look behind the curtain — there might just be a bunch of dried-out pancake makeup and old costumes that smell like mildewy mop heads back here.
