Dear Internet Bunnies,
We’re most of us in the thick of summer and this July I’m a fuzzy love bunny lounging in the cool shade. Come outside and sit for a spell with me. We can steal the burgeoning root veggies just toeing up in the warm dirt. For these horoscopes, I’ve decided that each of you needed a song and I know we all have different tastes but I hope you’ll give your music-familiars a chance. The sun is so bright, and the flowers born new everyday. If a storm comes, let it be a relief, an opening—we are in this together, you and I.
Yours, Galactic Rabbit
Aquarius (Jan 20-Feb 18): Water-bearer, let’s do a Yoko Ono sing-a-long together (I know, tough request):
Each time we don’t say what we wanna say, we’re dying
Each time we don't say how do we feel, we’re dying
Each time we get to do what we wanna do, we’re living
Each time we’re open to what we see and hear, we’re living
Yes, I’m a witch, I’m a bitch
I don’t care what you say
My voice is real, my voice is truth
I don’t fit in your ways
I don’t think there’s anything more perfect than these lyrics for you right now. Your god Uranus is burning up in Aries with an opposition to Mars (in Libra, direct) right now, so it’s all about fire, intensity and the mind. If you’re working toward something bigger than yourself, work harder. If your impulses are pulling you toward a dream that seems bigger than you let yourself imagine, let yourself be pulled.
Pisces (Feb 19-Mar 20): As usual, life is hard—I’m sorry. I want to say something cheery and soothing but I’m your water-animal friend and I have to call it like I see it. Neptune is in retrograde, Pluto opposing Uranus, Chiron moving backward through you—you’ve had enough, and yet there’s more. I’ll tell you the same thing I’ve been telling you every month: that your healing is deeply and inherently connected to stripping yourself of the illusions you have of who you are, who you can or cannot be. This is a work that cannot be surface, cannot be done for the eyes or to the benefit of anyone else. Imagine a morning in your heart where you are the lone diver who decides that you are ready to reach the ocean’s bottom. You can ask someone to stay aboveboard and keep watch; you can bring whatever you need to feel safe. As long as you remember that the shell you’re diving for is only part of the truest and most precious thing you’ve longed for: the courage to go it alone and come up safe, strong.
Aries (Mar 21-Apr 19): In a forest under an open sky, I’ve been waiting for you to build me a fire. I can do it myself but I like to watch you come through the trees, proud because you cleared a new path, found me. The way stones spark in your hand and the wood kindles under them. Do you know how powerful you are? I know you like to act it. I know there are people in this world that would never believe how easily a word can make you feel small or dismissed. Dear Fire-starter, you are a force to be reckoned with and the more time you spend honoring the parts of you that wound easily, the more powerful you’ll feel. Uranus has been with you for a long while now, pushing you into a new life all together. This month, Uranus’s retrograde orbit and opposition to Mars in Libra might make you feel torn in two: passion and beauty reflecting off the planet of revolutionary change. So simple and yet—something always stands in the way. If your thwarted efforts get too heavy, if the challenges feel endless, if this crazy universe gets just a little too crazy for you, then listen to Mimi and “Shake it Off."
Taurus (Apr 20-May 20): Last month I predicted you would have a summer of re-invention. Was I right? Have you taken the small steps necessary to change up your game? Have you shaken things up at work? Written the un-written story? Taken a fashion risk here and there? If not, then you still have time my dearest heart. In the slow July heat and soft chirping of birds, I know you can feel it. All that stored energy buzzing inside of you, egging (sorry for all this bird stuff) you on to be a better more engaged version of yourself. Maybe money is hard right now, making you freeze up an hesitate? Don’t worry, Taurus, the universe provides. Maybe you haven’t felt beautiful in a long time? You’ve been beautiful your whole life. Maybe you’ve been sleeping on a project that could truly shift your world? You’re the only one who can do this thing you have kept locked tight in your heart. I’ve decided that you need Grace Jones because she is a Taurus who is every version of herself—a master of re-invention. She’s a man-eating machine! A corporate cannibal! A digital criminal! I mean, really, anything she wants to be. Take her cue: get wild, then wilder.
Gemini (May 21-Jun 20): Hey Twinstar. I know the past few months have been… intense. Perhaps it felt like every bad decision you’d ever made was trying to catch up with you. Like if you needed to change something about your path it had to be done instantly, whether you felt ready to do it or not. I know I was putting the pressure on you and of course your apartment isn’t gonna sit around paying for itself. And, it would be really nice to afford a newer cooler keyboard. O Gemini, it’s summer, you have worked hard enough. The universe is here to love you back. The trees have opened up their greenest hearts and now the wind is a soft kiss moving slowly over them, leaf by leaf. You are that wind. When you want to, you touch the world with so much tenderness. It’s a tenderness that touches you right back—remember that. And tomorrow morning, when the world feels like it just might eat you up with all your to-dos and check lists, go ahead and pump up some Prince. Breakfast Can Wait.
Cancer (Jun 21-Jul 22): Once a woman I loved asked me to play a game with her, a meditation wherein everything I imagined was a symbol or signifier. In the woods she asked me to enter, I was instructed to imagine a teacup. What was it doing in the woods? What condition was it in? I didn’t just see one. I saw many. Dozens of floating teacups and one precious chipped one. The chipped one was the one I carried through my journey. Later, she explained that the teacups represented love in my life. Cancer, I want to talk to you about your career, your dreams. If there is a wall in you, walk around it. You can still choose yourself without abandoning anyone you love. More than that, I want you to imagine a teacup in the woods, as many or as little as you want, and I want you to look deeply at the one you're holding—its beauty and its flaws. It’s yours to hold and yours to set down gently, anytime you want. Also, here are some feelings for when it’s hard.
Leo (Jul 23-Aug 22): Once you believed you could be anything. You wrote a poem, so you made a book. You caught a song, so you wove an album together. If someone with a delicious smile crossed your path, it wasn’t long before you were cutting a rug together. (Or munching a carpet. Just kidding, no one says munching carpet anymore.) Maybe somewhere along the way you got discouraged, maybe the love that orbited you shifted and it felt like the circle broke. Whitney understands. She’s not here to tell you that the whole world was made for your big cat paws and neither am I. I just want to remind you that after you’ve spent the day making ends meet and catching up with everything everyone wants of you, you might do well to shrug off that protective shell for just a little while. Go out into the night, dip a cup into the darkness lit by stars, and drink deep. That’s the light inside of you, my tiger tiger burning bright.
Virgo (Aug 23-Sep 22): In this realm, the god that rules you is the god of communication: Mercury. Retrograde for the past month, Mercury is finally going direct—direct in Cancer, I might add. If any part of your chart falls in Cancer or if you are a Haver of Big Feelings, now is the time to press that tender spot where the pain pulses and give it a name. When something is familiar, we are less of afraid of it. Face the weakest parts of your nature with an open heart; they are the parts that need you most. In these moments of self-reflection, take time to think about who you are in your relationships with others. What do you expect and what do you give in return? As Mercury moves direct in his shadow aspect, he will revisit places of friction and loss from the previous month. Virgo, dry your tears, this month will give you the opportunity for closure, expansion, and true moments of growth.
Libra (Sep 23-Oct 22): “I can’t believe life’s so complex when I just want sit here and watch you undress,” sings that PJ Harvey, who is most always correct. Libra, for half a year, Mars has been dogging you with his passion and desire and unrelenting drive. Combined with your love of balance and beauty, the cohabitation could have been a great love spell—romantic or otherwise—if only Mars hadn’t spent so much time retrograding. Now, like all life-changing creative residencies, Mars has turned direct and is almost ready to move on. Don’t let this last month together pass you by. Harness the independence and vital life force Mars brings into your house. If there is a cutie at the coffee shop, slip her your number, if there is a script you’ve been meaning to write—write it! Life might be complex but opening a door toward pleasure is a simple turn.
Scorpio (Oct 23-Nov 21): This month has you feeling the energy and support of your zodiac wheel neighbors. With Sagittarius getting a little watery (Jupiter in Cancer) and Libra getting a little intense (Mars), it’s time you bitches had a house party. Everyone can read tarot cards, cry, make out, and laugh about it tomorrow. Sounds really good, right? Just don’t forget (and Uranus opposing Mars won’t let you!) that this is still the year of the horse and in the midst of all that fun, you have a mission. There is something you are meant to do in this world and there’s no better time then now to walk toward it. I know you Scorpio. I know you have a practical plan, a life-ladder out of any risky situation (especially one for your heart). This month allow yourself a little impulsiveness—be braver. And if you start to feel a little low, watch Ciara (Scorpio, duh) have a good time with Nicki (fire friends!). No big deal but those squatty bouncy dance moves they’ve got going on in that space ship are requiring me to, um, step away for a minute.
Sagittarius (Nov 22-Dec 21): Jupiter hanging out in Cancer for so long has been taking its toll, hasn’t it, my Centaur? Obviously you know how to pony up, or, as Nicki Minaj says “keep it moving be classy and graceful.” (I mean sure some of this video is just an ad for her perfume line but also look how sensitive she feels! And all that bunniness!) Someone so adept at appearing to be forthright while guarding her core should have no problem riding these feelings out on the surface. But, underneath, your sad current has a strong pull. You might find yourself needing refuge. Consider going to that mystical weeping party your best Scorpio is throwing (see above) or maybe watch a movie that lets you cry into your popcorn tub like its not even about you. There are elements in the sky this month that want you to show your valor. In return they promise to reward you. What would courage look like for you?
Capricorn (Dec 22-Jan 19): Oh that full moon is coming for you and it’s gonna feel real good. Well, maybe not at first—maybe it’ll be a little uncomfortable. But, Pluto’s waves of retrograde intensity have been calling you to transform from the inside out for years now, you should be used to the temperature of this water my Sea-goat. July’s full moon is ready to float all the aspirations you’ve been holding back right to the surface. I’m thinking about Annie Lennox walking around Coney Island in her dark angel costume in the video for "Precious." Maybe I’m biased because Coney Island is the hard ruby in my heart but I think this song could really speak to you right now. Like most of the songs I’ve chosen this month, it’s love song. Also more than that: a prayer and a performance. Despite what the lyrics might have you believe at first, Annie (Sea-goat familiar) is her own Angel. You are your own Angel, you save yourself every day. Let this month be the month you do a little more for yourself—a celebration, a love ritual.
