Weekend Roundup

meHow did I find this group picture of us from the future?? I'll tell you one day, I swear. If you need some reading material for your relaxation hours this weekend, we've got some good stuff to catch up on: people trying to write in art, 162 new emoji ideas (smiley face with eggplant eyes!), New York Times real estate section Mad Libs, a case for the Flowbee, and 15 other things you might say to a dress. We talked about the bodies of female athletes and the fractured identities of The Americans and the cost of death in America. We studied the female trainwreck and tried to solve our first, saddest mystery, and we talked to Baba Yaga about insecurity in friendship, Jennifer Weiner about fictional boundaries, and Julie Klausner about being a Difficult woman.

I am bidding you farewell for a week (wish me luck, finishing my novel?!) but the good ship Hairpin never stops cruising. See you back here on Monday, dearest beach cranks.

5 Things I Liked This Week (or last week, because I think last week I forgot):

1. I survived open mic night! I was the only female comic performing, and possibly the least experienced, but I'm happy with my performance, and I got good feedback on it.
2. Free tiny Frappuccino!
3. Beer and complaining about how much boys suck is an excellent way to spend a Saturday
4. I signed up for the Ann Friedman newsletter and she provides tons of links for weekend reading.
5. Going away for a week on Monday! Huzzah!

@Rookie (not the magazine) (not that there's anything wrong with that) Yay! Happy reading and happy travels!

@Rookie (not the magazine) (not that there's anything wrong with that) Oooh, I just signed up for Ann Friedman's newsletter, too. Thanks for the tip!

@Rookie (not the magazine) (not that there's anything wrong with that) Congratulations on open mic! You are brave to be doing standup, that is terrifying to me. Music is so much easier. Positive feedback is fantastic, too!

I think I can summon up 5 things:
1. Finally got nekkid with another human after a 6-month-plus dry spell
2. Had 2 big jobs come in, and 1 small one (I freelance)
3. Ate spinach and arugula from my own garden
4. Finally framed two things I had been meaning to put in frames foreverrrrrr
5. Had a date cancel this evening but stayed at the bar and drank dark beer and read Wodehouse and laughed my ass off by myself.

These good things are somewhat mitigated by the Dire Event that happened yesterday afternoon, in which I made myself a lovely cup of tea and drank it as I worked, and there was a LARGE SPIDER in the last mouthful arrrrghhhh I am still not over it. How did a spider get in my tea?!?!?! And I don't even mind spiders!

I am looking forward to spending the weekend's precious relaxation hours in my new fringed bikini! So many good reads will be stacked on the beach sands.(Hot tip: http://monifc.com/ for extremely excellent plus sized suits with good coverage and size charts that seem to run true.)

I'm seriously thinking about investing in a hammock!

@Ricepaperdress do it

@Ricepaperdress Do it, and then teach me the secret to entering and exiting a hammock without getting stuck in it or falling.

I wish you have a nice weekend.

Before you go, credits for that fabulous image?
