Late Show With Not A Man

David Letterman announced today that he'll retire in 2015. Very sad, especially after this wonderful bit with Bill Murray last night. Very sad indeed. But we will mourn later. Who—more specifically, which woman—should replace him? Chelsea Handler gets an early vote.

WHOA sorry an early vote from whom exactly? Chelsea "Uganda Be Kidding Me" Handler should not have been given a TV show in the first place, she is spectacularly unfunny. There's SO many funny women working in comedy and TV now, c'monnn

@NellyBly I'm just thinking of women who have been doing similar jobs for some time, but sure. Who else you got?

idrathernot

@NellyBly I wouldn't be surprised if she DID get it, but yes, I am also troubled by Chelsea Handler, particularly in light of her recent racist Oscars tweets.

I vote for Tiny Fey! Or Amy Poehler! Maybe Both of them together?

Before Seth Meyers got his late night job, Buzzfeed posted a list of people who could fill Jimmy Fallon's old timeslot and were not white men, and Maya Rudolph was on that list. It was probably the first time I thought Buzzfeed was onto something.

Maya Rudolph for President! Or, like host of the Late Show I guess if she can't be president.

YES TO MAYA RUDOLPH. She is a beautiful genius. I feel like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are maybe a little too obvious? And/or they have other things going on that I as a fan want them to focus on. Maya seems to just have something that would translate well to a late night format. Dunno. ~vibes~

@catbuttmuseum Agree 100%. I love Tina Fey more than life itself, but I don't know if I'd want her to permanently host something and limit herself from other writing (and acting!) projects. Plus, it would be really awful to put her up in a timeslot against Jimmy Fallon. Like choosing which parent you'd rather live with.

Maya, on the other hand, would give Jimmy a run for his money, and I think she needs and deserves a new high-profile gig.

Samantha Bee.
?

Emma Carmichael

@Onymous Oh my god yes.

@Onymous Yesssssssssss. This might convince me to actually watch Late Night TV.

and it's not even my birthday

Not that she's done anything like it before (other than hosting SNL) or would necessarily want to, but I think Melissa McCarthy would make a fine Late Show host.

JaneBriefcase

@and it's not even my birthday I really think Melissa would be an excellent choice.

just spitballing here, but...

The Late Show with Beyonce and Jay-Z.

Kalorama_Kat

Do people like Sarah Silverman? I thought her show was great.

CubeRootOfPi

@Kalorama_Kat I have the same problem with her as I do with Chelsea Handler. I mean, she's done blackface before.

idrathernot

@Kalorama_Kat I can't comment on the blackface incident because I'm unfamiliar with it, but I generally like Sarah Silverman, and in her book she writes about her process of writing jokes about things like race and trying to make sure they "punch up" at systems of oppression but sometimes failing. I'm not saying she is perfect by any means, but I don't place her on Chelsea Handler's level.

Gloria

My fingers crossed for Amy Sedaris.
