The Grammys, Briefly

If you skipped last night's Grammy Awards and want to catch up on the outfits, here's a red-carpet gallery from HuffPo and another from The Cut, where they're focusing on the "Biggest Violators of the Grammys' No-Nipple Rule." Meanwhile, CNN has a two-minute video montage of the show itself, and a full list of the winners can be found here. Carly Rae was robbed.

Didn't watch, but found out this morning that Gotye is an Aussie *so proud* but now I have John Farnham's "The Voice" in my head because that's who his voice sounds like to me now.

Scandyhoovian

@iceberg YOU'RE THE VOICE TRY AND UNDERSTAND IT
MAKE A NOISE AND MAKE IT CLEAR
WOOOOOOAAAAHOHOHHHHHOHOHOHOHOHHHHHHHHH

iceberg

@Scandyhoovian EXACTLY. Farnesy.

mcleodglen

@iceberg
ahha, actually i didn't watch either.

allendaniel

This is really cool!@a

Clare

As I tweeted last night, TAYLOR SWIFT STOP SINGING ALONG AND GESTICULATING. THIS IS AN AWARDS SHOW NOT THE INSIDE OF A SORORITY GIRL'S CAMRY AT A STOPLIGHT.

anachronistique

wait, Gotye won over Fiona Apple? INJUSTICE!!!

pallasathena

@anachronistique Gotye over anyone else nominated is an injustice, really (m83? Tom Waits? Bjork?)... but especially Fiona Apple. The Idler Wheel is incredible.

cuminafterall

I didn't watch it but followed along on my Twitter feed, which was surprisingly comprehensive! So thanks, people I follow on Twitter.

Scandyhoovian

You know, if Lonely Boy wasn't going to win Record of the Year, I'm glad Gotye took it instead of any of those other ones.

(Also Mumford & Sons, TAKE IT HOME. Love them!)

meetapossum

@Scandyhoovian I think anyone who was mad that Gotye won did not listen to the entire album. It's really good!

Daisy Razor

So is there anywhere I can watch the performances if I missed the show? I'd like to see The Band tribute.

pajamaralls

@Daisy Razor I think Uproxx and Deadspin might have them up?

That + the Bob Marley tributes where great. But the Levon Helm/Band tribute...Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes was there and she is my Queen.

ohmy

All I know is 3 years ago I danced with all the members of fun. at a club in London. So I can now say I danced with grammy winners. Claim to fame.

Leslie Green@facebook

Thanks for the link to the red carpet recap--Alexa Chung looks so perfectly pretty! And Rhianna is so beautiful.

smidge

Er, does anyone else have feelings about Chris Brown and Rihanna? Because I don't want to judge, her life etc etc., but I am uncomfortable.

VerityStandingStill

@smidge Ugh, yes, feelings. Likewise, don't want to be judgy-pants. I just try to wish that it all turns out okay for her in the end.

julnyes

@smidge there is an ugh feeling, then the "Its their lives to live" feeling and then the "why are they focused on so much while plenty of other heinous stars get a pass" and then I just get tired of thinking about it at all.

redheaded&crazy

@VerityStandingStill well she ... looks ... happy? I guess? :S

I still despise Chris Brown though. That's allowed, right? I think so yes.

redheaded&crazy

@julnyes (so true to everything you just said) (although I think them writing stupid songs about their relationship doesn't help)

VerityStandingStill

@redheaded&crazy Yes, we still get to despise Chris Brown. For a multitude of reasons.

iceberg

@VerityStandingStill For today, I choose "because he sat during a standing ovation of Frank Ocean". As Buzzfeed said "because of course he did."

Hot Doom

@smidge Hrm, nah, I'm just going to jump right in and judge, mostly because he seems like a bona fide ass.

wee_ramekin

@iceberg Except sort of the greatest thing is that Adele apparently chewed his ass out after he pulled that sulky move.

GOD DAMN, that is great. Also though, that takes more ovaries than I've got, because that piece of trash has shown that he's not shy about hitting people who piss him off.

Hot Doom

@wee_ramekin Adele just got +5 million points

julnyes

I found this Grammy awards surprisingly enjoyable. It was very heavy on the performances and had a mix of genres. I had heard of Mumford & Sons before but this was the first time I heard them perform and I was very impressed. This reminds me to buy their album today.

pallasathena

I wanted Frank Ocean to sing any song except for Forrest Gump, really. That was his big Grammy debut they had been promo-ing in all the commercials?

lasso tabasco

@pallasathena I know! That was a bizarre performance, especially considering how much it was hyped up.

ayo nicole

@pallasathena He didn't sound very good and I was pretty bummed about it.

pallasathena

@lasso tabasco @ayo nicole Seriously! Especially compared to Miguel's very brief performance earlier, who absolutely brought it... I just wanted Frank Ocean to bring it too.

katiemcgillicuddy

Jack white is a goddamn motherfucking rock star if ever there was one.

highfivesforall

@katiemcgillicuddy I was kind of weirded out by him switching from an all lady band to an all dude band, though? Mostly because none of the women looked like they wanted to be there, like maybe they were his brainwashed cult wives. Which, that's probably better than most of the other cults out there, but still. But I am always glad to see a dude wearing anything other than a boring suit. So sparkly!

katiemcgillicuddy

@highfivesforall Ha, you know, I noticed the all-lady band but I guess I had a few too many and didn't realize the next band was all guys. That is definitely weird. Yeah, though, if you're gonna join a cult, that's probably a good one to go with. Either way, if everyone performed like that at the Grammys, I'd never miss it.

you're a kitty!

@highfivesforall He did his whole Blunderbuss tour with two bands to keep the tension up — the gender divide is so that the audience can tell that there are actually two bands.

@katiemcgillicuddy Goddamn. Motherfucking. Rock star.

@everyone: Go watch the I'm Shakin' video RIGHT NOW.

ayo nicole

Are we all going to ignore Taylor Swift's circus performance and pretend it never happened? Great.

cupcakecore@twitter

Katy Perry showed up looking grown up and Beyonce showed up in business casual. THIS IS BIZARRO WORLD.

ms. alex

I think the word "Grammys" is really awkward and want it to be "Grammies."

cuminafterall

@ms. alex I like to pronounce it "Gram-miss."

ms. alex

ALSO, is anyone else confused by the Grammy categories? They seem somewhat repetitive every year, and it's part of why I've kind of given up on caring about them.

lasso tabasco

Also, can we talk about Prince? What was his deal? SO AWKWARD.

julia

Disappointed Jack White did not win anything. Blunderbuss is a solid, excellent album from start-to-finish. I like the Black Keys too but did they have to win all rock categories?

And Carrie Underwood had to stand stock still so they could do a weird light show on her dress and that was the weirdest thing I saw (but I didn't see it all).

And yes Carly was robbed.

pajamaralls

I needed way less Fun. and Taylor Swift dancing and more Alabama Shakes.

Bob Marley and Levon Helm tributes were everything. As was the little portion of the Dave Brubeck tribute.
