Hark! A Vagrant's Kate Beaton enhances Friday with an illustrated tale of nastiness.
comics, kate beaton, janet jackson, nasty boys
The second panel is just UNREAL in how awesome it is. The whole comic, really, but especially that second panel.
@Sarah H. YES. Perfection! Ms. Janet is SO UNIMPRESSED with all this nastiness. (I love the panel up top too. She looks so awesome.)
Watch it, LOVE IT!@a
HOLY SHIT THIS IS THE BEST. I was literally giggling at my desk. I love you Kate Beaton, you wacky, amazing Canadian ball of awesomeness.
love her so much!
(St Jude's Home for the Nasty!)
@iceberg So many great little details. He brings his popcorn home all dejectedly!
@Amphora "Hey girl?" "Nasty boy!"
@area@twitter "It's all good baby how you doin'?" and the hopeful gazing up through tears <3
KATE BEATON! <3 <3 <3
Okay, going to look at pictures now.
Also, I really like the hint that Kate's done a cover for a series that we've probably read. My first thought/hope is that she's talking about A Song of Ice and Fire. Maybe Harry Potter? The Hobbit with some sort Smauglock crossover? YEAAAAAAH
@RK Fire I am going to guess Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy... for some reason?
@Emmanuelle Cunt That would also be totally fantastic.
@RK Fire NEW EDITIONS OF NANCY DREW!?
@Megano! oh my god
Or Hardy Boys. Or both. (I've never read either but she definitely seems to have a soft spot for them!)
@RK Fire Oh man, I have so many Nancy Drews!
Well, this is the best thing I've ever seen, pretty sure I don't need to see anything else in my life ever.
(Plus I had just started a Michael Jackson binge at work... maybe this is a sign it's time to switch to Janet?)
who's that thinkin nasty thoughts?
who's that in that nasty car?
who's that in that nasty room?
who's jumpin to my nasty groove?!?
@Emmanuelle Cunt I always thought the third line was "Who's that eatin' that nasty food?" It's funny but doesn't make as much sense.
@fondue with cheddar I always thought it was that as well! I just Googled the lyrics and half the sites say "who's that eatin' that nasty food?" and the other half say "eating that nasty fruit?" and that lyric is kind of amazing.
@totallyunoriginal I love them all!
My copy of the Walrus for which she did the cover is going to be worth millions some day!
Does this mean turtlenecks are back? I think they might be back! I keep asking and no one will answer meeeeeeeee!
@Charismatic Megafauna I am pretty sure I've seen multiple turtlenecks layered under blouses on The Sartorialist lately.
@Charismatic Megafauna They're actually surprisingly popular in Paris? My best-dressed friend (who isn't really trendy, just an art student with amazing style, so maybe not the best bellwether) wears them a lot, and I've seen lots of other girls wearing them. I still refuse, though, because they remind me of looking terrible in middle school.
My HUNKS mug just came in and I am super-excited to make it my office mug.
@Tragically Ludicrous I've got the Glam Breakfast one!
Kate Beaton is just so rad. Waaaay back in the day she took a bunch of requests for comic topics, did comics about them, and then MAILED THE ORIGINALS TO THE SUGGESTORS FOR FREE. I requested Emperor Norton and gave the original to my friend, which remains probably my best gift of all time.
At first I was trying to figure out which senator that was supposed to be at the end...
THIS IS THE BEST THING
@Megano! it IS, it really is the best thing, nothing is as good as this thing.
I like the part where she does the dance moves. YEAP.
@redheaded&crazy I like the part where EVERYTHING.
I love Kate Beaton! My favorite of all time is still probably Dude Watchin' with the Brontes http://www.harkavagrant.com/index.php?id=202
I have both the tee shirt and the print. Plus the books and calendar...OMG I think I might be kind of a groupie.
@rallisaurus I have the Queen t-shirt and one of the books, I have given the other book to two different people, a poster to another friend, and my family all got calendars. I also plan on purchasing the cat shirt for a friend (AND MAYBE FOR ME) and the Curie shirt for another and maybe some prints for me. So... um... fellow groupie.
@rallisaurus I got both calendars for Christmas so I have Beethoven Birthday Party at home and Thar She Blows at work. (Which means my office now has The Rochester Wedding Party hanging up right now. WHEE.)
@anachronistique I have There She Blows calendar above my bed and you just reminded me to turn the page to February. I deliberately didn't look ahead so that each month would be a surprise. Yay, Rochester Wedding Party! That's a good idea, I think I'll get the other calendar for my cube at work.
I saw here at the Boston Book Fest two years ago and it was great. I don't know if I'm a full on groupie yet but she's amazing I definitely want to be her (move to Canada and write comics).
@mabellegueule I've been thinking about buying the Wednesday the cat t-shirt for a while because we have a cat that looks a lot like that - her name is Friday though.
Love Kate Beaton. She is the reason I got behind the Choose Your Own Adventure Hamlet Kickstarter. I figured anything featuring her artwork was worth it.
@julnyes Wait wait. So there's potentially going to be a "Choose Your Own Adventure Hamlet" illustrated by Kate Beaton in the world??? Eeeeee!
@snakelet HOLY GODS
@julnyes YES! Those daily email updates were SO GOOD, I cannot wait for the book to come out. (and I am actually reading Hamlet now because I want to enjoy the book even more.) I'm also excited for dino tattoos.
@dormilona I specifically threw more money at them than anticipated so I could get a squishable Yorick skull. Because. SQUISHABLE YORICK SKULL!!!
He was born nasty.
HARK A VAGRANT is the best. No, really. Kate Beaton, I have a request for you to do more history panels and/or Nancy Drew cover illustrations. I'm actually in love with them. Thank youuuu
YES! That made my Friday!
Cue Jackson-athon, queuing Janet.
Kate Beaton and Melis need to collaborate on an illustrated Texts From Nancy Drew. YESSSSS
@Lemonnier Oh man, Kate is just the best, isn't she?
@Lemonnier I used to think that, but then I worried that that might mean less of each! So maybe an Epic Illustrated Manic Texting Fest From Nancy Drew?
Her comics are going to be an integral part of my lesson plans when I start teaching history. It is going to be great.
