If you replace all of these with "a necromancer?" it's almost as funny, but not quite.
feminism, taylor swift, lists, are people feminists?, new inquiry
Not that I condone feminism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Feminists, I just believe in affixing quick, broad labels to people so that we can more easily reject their arguments offhand with our pre-built dismissals rather than allowing for nuance and individuality in our argumentations around culture, equality, gender, and society." Good point there.
@leon s And then he beat his wife! Is this like. . . are you being literal? I can't tell! Is this tongue-in-cheek? (The number one complaint re: my personal character is my excessive earnestness/literalism.)
@aphrabean - It's basically the "I don't believe in isms, I just believe in me" quote from Ferris Bueller, which was a Lennon quote, but I inserted me whining about people just applying "Feminism" or "Socialism" or whatever as a label to things so that they can debate about the label itself instead of the actual merits of the persons argument.
So, the Lennon quote isn't really accurate. My apologies for the confusion. I just had a big argument w/ a friend the other night about "Feminism" because he's from a background where as soon as he hears the word his mind goes right to "man-hating bra-burners", so he thinks he hates "feminism" even though he's actually kind of feminist on individual issues, and it's just getting tiresome as a dude to look around and see dudes you are friends with being so ignorant on the issue. My comment was way to snarky and jerk-ish, and the humor not really existant. I'm sorry about that.
@leon s well i thought it was funny
@leon s Agh! Pop-culture hole of the 80s strikes again! Damn you, hippie upbringing. No need to apologize, sir - I knew I was missing some context there.
Michelle Bachmann is not a necromancer… for now
I don't know, I really enjoy the question "Is Taylor Swift a necromancer's nightmare?"
Another fun/geeky "find and replace" exercise would be to replace it all with "the Dragonborn?"
@RK Fire I love the idea of Mrs. Claus being the Dragonborn.
@fondue with cheddar I just imagine her clearing away a room full of torn wrapping paper with a good ol' FUS RO DAH.
@RK Fire Taylor Swift used to be a popular musician, but then she took an arrow to the knee.
@breccia She immortalized her experiences in one of her recent singles, "I Knew You Were Trouble (Because You Stole My Sweet Roll)."
@RK Fire She should have helped out Santa Claus! Imagine how efficient you could be, Whirlwind Sprinting from rooftop to rooftop!
@breccia Taylor who? Wait...I know her.
@fondue with cheddar
Ex-boyfriend: Never should've come here!!
Re. Mrs. Claus: Aura Whisper would also be super-helpful in helping Santa Claus avoid sneaky children.
@RK Fire Yes! And Kyne's Peace for unruly pets.
@fondue with cheddar And Slow Time, naturally.
@fondue with cheddar Guess who is excited about the DLCs finally coming to the PS3! :D :D :D
@RK Fire She's gotta keep her eyes open. Damn One Direction fans could swoop down at any time.
@RK Fire GEEZ it took them long enough!
I actually haven't beaten the game yet because I got so discouraged by all the bugs. I moved on to Mass Effect 3 about a month ago. I do plan on going back; hopefully they will have fixed them by then.
"Is Barbie a necromancer, or would it be better for necromancy if she was wiped off the face of the earth?"
Is Taylor Swift a necromancer's nightmare?
Is Joss Whedon really a necromancer? Well, jeez, after the Avengers box office how is that even a question anymore?
(And they cheated with the "Is Wonder Woman a feminist icon?" one. The second half of the headline is "Yes, yes, YES." Because duh.)
@Daisy Razor Wasn't WW on the very first cover of Ms.Magazine? I think at that point we can quit with the blog posts, right?
So....what's the official definition of A Feminist these days?
*lights powder keg and runs away cackling*
@Countess Maritza Can't.. resist.. opening... ahem.
A Feminist must have "..a thorough knowledge of music, singing, drawing, dancing, and the modern languages, to deserve the word; and besides all this, she must possess a certain something in her air and manner of walking, the tone of her voice, her address and expressions, or the word will be but half-deserved."
@Countess Maritza Me. Nobody but me is a feminist. I am The Only Real Feminist
@Countess Maritza Here's what I posted in the comments on the 'Is Taylor Swift a Feminist' article:
I identify as a feminist, and for me, the term means that all people deserve the same rights, respect, and opportunities. Women have historically been denied all of those things - and in many arenas, they still are.
Put it this way: if you believe in equal work for equal pay, women being able to work outside the home, vote, hold public office, divorce, make their own money, make medical decisions without having to consult anyone but their doctor, play sports...basically anything that men can do, then you're a feminist.
@Emmanuelle Cunt I've got a greatsword that begs to differ. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE
@RK Fire I am no longer surprised at your knowing only six feminists. I rather wonder now at your knowing any.
@fondue with cheddar COME AT ME SIS
@fondue with cheddar One Feminist to rule them all, one Feminist to bind them?
This is getting ~*~kinky~*~.
(Also, I realize that my first answer was too!earnest! Mea culpa.)
No worries! I'm feeling overly silly today. Also, I just learned about this relevant XKCD..
@Emmanuelle Cunt You know, it's kind of stupid for there to be only one feminist in the world. That's how we ended up with the Patriarchy! Maybe we could just meet for drinks and call a truce?
@fondue with cheddar But I thought Feminism = Infighting!?
@Emmanuelle Cunt No no no no no NO. Feminism is a lobbying group, funded by Planned Parenthood, that was designed solely to separate Good, Honest, Working Men™ from their children in divorce settlements against Slutty, Lazy, Cuntfaced Ex Wives.
@Emmanuelle Cunt We can still fight, just without killing each other. We can say mean things about each others' clothing or figures, or we can just sleep each other's boyfriends. Your call.
@wee_ramekin I am actually the girlfriend of a good, honest, working man who was separated from his children in a divorce settlement against a cuntfaced ex wife. And the stepsister of another. Family court may be the one and only place where women are treated much more favorably than men.
@Countess Maritza In all seriousness, I really like bell hook's definition. "Feminism is the struggle against sexism." It's short. It's simple. It's to the point. Anyone can join in and we can disagree with how best to keep up the fight but if the ideology is "we ought to fight against sexism" it is feminism.
@fondue with cheddar I would be 100% willing to bet, though (on the strength of him being your boyfriend :o) ), that your boyfriend does not go on Men's Rights Advocate forums and talk about how all women are, by their very nature, lazy cuntfaced sluts, nor would he dismiss the entirety of patriarchy by claiming that women shouldn't complain about being oppressed, because men without land or property have also been oppressed throughout history. Oh, and that male circumcision is completely equal to female genital mutilation. I also bet he doesn't believe that his experience means that gender inequality doesn't exist and that ACTUALLY it is women who have all the power in the world (fucking gold diggers).
I have read about you and your boyfriend's struggles over the past couple years with the court system, and I extend my sympathies. That sounds like such a shitty path to tread.
@wee_ramekin You are correct in your assesment. He is a Decent Guy who respects women!
The "men's rights" stuff is so ridiculous. And while the family court system is definitely prejudiced against fathers, it's only because women are considered to be mothers, first and foremost. Years ago, he tried to get a restraining order against her for abusing their daughter, and the judge actually said, "I'm not going to separate a mother from her children," that losing her children is the worst thing that can happen to a woman. There's that patriarchy again!
Thanks for your sympathies, and for remembering that those stories were told by me (I'm terrible at remembering who said what around here). It's been a hard battle, and even though it's supposed to be over there are still battles to be waged as she is not complying with a couple aspects of the settlement agreement which are important to moving on and rebuilding. Technically, she's in contempt of court, which is a felony, but I don't have much faith that the system will help him in this case either. Ugh..."justice".
@fondue with cheddar yah exactly, the judges are making super sexist decisions.I'm all for womens' capacity to commit abuse, and men's capacity to raise children, being recognized in society! That's part of what equality is!
