Happy [Almost] Lunar New Year

This Sunday, February 11, marks the start of the year of the snake, and Food52 has a nice roundup of Lunar New Year-appropriate recipes if you feel like celebrating culinarily. Epicurious has one, too, and here's an older but classic one from Serious Eats, who also ask "what are you eating during snow weekend?" Also, why not, here's a really beautiful drawing of a snake.

Incidentally, Sunday is also Clean Out Your Computer Day.

Yay yay yay! Chuc mung nam moi, everyone!

The wiki link for Clean Out Your Computer Day is particularly unhelpful. We talking files? Old bookmarks, etc.? Or getting a shopvac and getting the crumbs out from under the keyboard?

My thoughts exactly.

Portlanders tend to think alike. Ask Fred Armisen.

Happy almost new year! I'm going to my parents house with my bf and we're going to have a banh chung and it will be lovely.

@adorable-eggplant It's sad, but I've never had banh chung--my immediate family was pretty lax about observing Tet. My husband and I are going to Eden Center in VA to get some.. as well as to load up on other food. (Who bulk orders banh mi to take back to Baltimore? THIS WOMAN.)

@RK Fire Mmm banh mi. :) Have a happy, prosperous, banh mi filled new year!

RK Fire

@adorable-eggplant Oh man, I just came back from my aunt's and I am so full of fried banh chung slices. I also got 6 banh mi.

I hope you have a happy, prosperous banh mi (and other delicious foods) filled new year as well!

Ahhhh Sunday is the 10th. I normally wouldn't correct, but the 11th is my bday soooo, it's like I have to? I don't know, sorry!

@TheRisottoRacket Happy birthday!

Petite Araignée

My boyfriend, roommate and I made cheesy-pumpkin seed biscuits and fried eggs. It's awesome.

I guess I celebrated COYCD early, because mine was making an alarming whining noise, so I disassembled it from the top down and cleaned out a giant wad of dust and cat hair and crumbs and general filth and made sure the fan was spinning freely and now it is QUIET and COOL and generally great. So. Everybody should do this! Just be careful of where you put down the teeny tiny screws!
