Well, my afternoon is shot, then.

@PatatasBravas Just going through 1997 is going to keep me off the street until at least Saturday.

I'm so glad to see it! @y

Oh man. Well. There's that.

Also I wish Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett had a reason to be at this year's Oscars. They always bring the regal crazy.

@yeah-elle I imagine that Cate and Tilda are on another plane, separated from us mortals, and they have psychic conversations with each other during all awards events.

@dj pomegranate Right? They're both so amazing.

I wonder what the inside of Tilda's brain is like. I like to imagine Cate has an inner monologue like Galadriel's "ALL SHALL LOVE ME AND DESPAIR" while she smiles calmly and beautifully upon the normal folk.

My top five faves, in no order and irrespective of my respect for the person wearing them:

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford 2012
Louise Roe, Black Halo 2012
Heidi Klum, Galliano 2008
Hilary Swank in Guy Laroche 2005
Lucy Liu, Versace 2000

@PatatasBravas I don't even like Gwynnie but that Tom Ford dress is BANANAS amazing.

it seems like the demarcation between "pink" and "nude" is hazy at best.

@mariefischer So much strange probably should have been bridal wear!

I'm amused/horrified by how many of these I remember. "Oh yeah, the boob frame dress...prom hair...I loved that one but hated the shoes..."

I want to thank Michelle Williams* and Renee Zellweger for wearing yellow dresses. Before that, I never realized blondes could pull off yellow and look amazing.

Now that emerald green is the color of the year I want to see lots and lots and lots of it! Love green!

*I actually stole her hair and makeup for the yellow dress I wore in my engagement shoot.

@parallel-lines I feel the same way about the yellow dresses. They are consistently some of my favorite Oscars dresses. Michelle Williams in particular, with that gorgeous tangerine-y marigold.

I'm kind of amazed that, out of fifteen years, the most appearances by one person is nine (Nicole Kidman), followed by seven (Cameron Diaz, Gwyneth Paltrow, Meryl Streep, Penelope Cruz, and Renee Zellweger). I may have missed someone, though.

Edit: Jennifer Lopez has 10.

Rookie (not the magazine) (not that there's anything wrong with that)

@Vicky and I don't know how! Jennifer Lopez hasn't even made 10 good movies.

This slideshow made me realize that Versace has really put some huge stinkers out there. Faith Hill 2002 is really the worst of it, but none of the Versace dresses are all that flattering...

@parallel-lines also, raise your hand if you read that as "ver-saysss."

Jane Marie

@parallel-lines courtney love '97, though?

@Jane Marie Fair enough, that one is pretty good. It almost makes up for the strangulation of Jennifer Lopez's boobs in 2002.

Viola Davis always looks amazing. I love her and her dresses and her huge radiant smile.

Also, the '90s were not a good time for celebrity fashion. 14 years later and I still want to yank that pink dress up over Gwynnie's boobs. It looks like she hit Ralph Lauren at the end of the day and no one told her tailoring was a thing.

@sophia_h but Claire Danes in 1997. I saw that picture and gasped remembering how badly I wanted that outfit and that hair.

@lisma I still like Cate's backless dress with the flowers and hummingbird, though the embroidery looks a little cheap now.

@lisma Samsies. I gasped and then had to google for the whole thing. It's amazing.

The main thing I learned from the slideshow though, was that Juliette Binoche should not be allowed to dress herself ever. With these outfits, there's no possibility she even has a stylist, right?

I forgot about Hilary Swank's HORRIBLE pink ombre dress. Jesus.

Rookie (not the magazine) (not that there's anything wrong with that)

@lisma It just doesn't make any sense. I had forgot it too, mostly because it's so not an Oscar dress and so not Hilary Swank.

Also where is her dress from 1998 or 99, the year she won her first Oscar? That strapless sort of dark caramel colour.

The 1997 image for Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman is kind of priceless.
