"Inside DayGlo: The World's Most Colorful Factory"

It's possible you haven't been craving a short, Mr. Rogers-style factory documentary. Possible, but not likely. PS: Who here also didn't realize DayGlo was a brand name? No one?

My yearning for the Mr. Roger's crayon factory short is a primal one...

yeah-elle

@ohpioneer I instantly thought of the Sesame Street crayon factory short, which is similar to the Mr. Roger's one, but with cheesier music.

Ophelia

@yeah-elle ME TOO. All those lovely orange crayons, lined up in perfect rows.

ohpioneer

@yeah-elle I ALMOST like the Sesame Street one better... the synthesizers!! These shorts make me feel so many feelings!!

yeah-elle

@ohpioneer Yes, around 1:35 all of a sudden the music makes me feel like I am in a training montage from an early-80s movie. Yeah! Pack those crayons! You can do it! Fist pump! Crayons! Crayons! Crayons!

@ohpioneer Does anybody remember the short (don't remember if it was MRN or SS) where a little kid went on the road with a trucker, and they wrapped hamburger patties in aluminum foil and put them on top of the engine, and then they drove for awhile to cook the burgers, and then they stopped and ate the burgers? IT BLEW MY TINY MIND.

yeah-elle

@fondue with cheddar I remember one (I also don't remember if it was MRN or SS...or maybe even Arthur? in those little segments between episodes?) where a little boy got up really early in the morning to go ice fishing with his father and I remember a shot of the fish lying out on the ice, it completely overwhelmed me.

That and the Sesame Street pinball 1 2 3 FOUR FIVE 6 7 8 NINE TEN eleven twelve OOOooooOOOhh

ohpioneer

@yeah-elle I watch the pinball 12 short on the regular. Like... every three days.

yeah-elle

@ohpioneer That and the orange singing "Carmen" and the "Alligator King" song, right?

fondue with cheddar

@yeah-elle That one is fantastic, of course. I also love the ladybug picnic one!

There was one about the letter D that always creeped me out, with things morphing into other things...really trippy.

fondue with cheddar

OMG I FOUND IT! No morphing, just a lot of creepy things accompanying an innocent-sounding song. Daddy Dear

ohpioneer

@fondue with cheddar "U" really got a hole on me. . .

yeah-elle

@ohpioneer And James Taylor singing "Jelly Man Kelly" with the kids on the stoop! And Pete Seeger during "Put Down the Ducky."

fondue with cheddar

@yeah-elle And The Beetles singing "Letter B"

ohpioneer

@fondue with cheddar I teach social studies to high schoolers and every time I say "South America" I always say it "SOUTH America" like the announcer in the Grover waiter shorts.

fondue with cheddar

@ohpioneer I don't remember that one!

Ophelia

@ohpioneer Oooh, I HATED the "U" segment. It really creeped me out. I'm with @fondue with cheddar re: "Letter B" - that's my all-time favorite.

Hot Doom

@fondue with cheddar Oh my god, Ladybug Picnic all the way.

anachronistique

@yeah-elle The orange singing Carmen TERRIFIED me as a child and continues to do so. It bothers me on a visceral level, I'm getting freaked out just thinking about it.

fondue with cheddar

@anachronistique OMG ME TOO

jhonsons

Freakin love it :)@j

1. I think maybe the Lisa Frank factory could compete for the Most Colorful Factory title
2. I wish that John Waters had been Actual John Waters, how fucking amazing would that be
and
3. I wish writing could somehow be as visual as film because now I totally want to set a story in a pigment factory

Yarnybarny

I love how they keep justifying their old equipment! "this isn't like the pharmaceutical industry where everything has to be clean and new"
I also love how they hand the hosting job off to different young men in pleated khakis.

fondue with cheddar

Honestly, I could watch short, Mister Rogers-style factory documentaries ALL DAY.

IMAGINE HOW COLORFUL THE WORKERS' BOOGERS ARE

EpWs

I know John Waters, sir, and you are no John Waters.

Best pun ever.

You don't fool me with YouTubic propaganda, I know how Star Sprinkles are really made.

fondue with cheddar

WAIT ARE YOU SURE THIS ISN'T APERTURE SCIENCE?

DianaPrince

@fondue with cheddar Better try jumping on one of the Day-Glo orange spots, just to check.

@xx-xx-xx I like the blue better. BOOING BOOOOING!
