Our very own Jane Marie, on all the wonderful wedding beauty ideas you'll have to discard, since you can only pick one. Unless they have those snap-tracksuit quick-change options in wedding couture? We'll check. JAAANE.

Jaaaaaaane! As always, Jane is correct. Because 99% of the wedding updos and stuff on Pinterest is going to be impossible to accomplish, or won't look good on your hair, or will wind up being sort of limp and half-assed because you are not a professional hairdresser, or will be disappointing because it looks nice from behind but from the front it looks like you have a huge hair lump 3/4 of the way back on your head, or for whatever other reason.
So just mimic Jane, for everything, in life.
@The Lady of Shalott Unrelated, but are you aware there is a nail polish named after you?! I can't do the lovely little clickable link, but here is the website.
@Is It a Hat? I WOULD WEAR THE HELL OUT OF THAT
@The Lady of Shalott Right? It's so pretty!
@Is It a Hat? Holy cats, those polishes are glorious!
lol,, thank you@m
I am Maid of Honoring at my best friend's wedding next month. I have asked her whether there will be pro hair/makeup the day of. Makeup I can handle, but I am growing my hair out,and not happy with what I can currently accomplish with it (although I have a trim planned for the week before the wedding, which should help).
On the other hand, the wedding is in Texas, and I am slightly afraid what that might mean as far as hairdresser aesthetics.
@redheaded&crazie those were supposed to be exclamation marks but you know what I'm leaving it
@redheaded&crazie TWO DAYS. Coffee is doing a real number on me suddenly. Maybe I should eat something? Is this real life?!
@Jane Marie SO EXCITED FOR YOU! I hope we get to see a couple pictures.
@Jane Marie AHH! so exciting! please eat, and please try to sleep. try not to get too run down or you'll get sick! (trust me, speaking from experience). pleeeasssseee share some pics afterwards! <3
I'm getting domestic partnered (not technically married) soon, and I really wish Jane would put makeup on me and figure out a way to wrangle my huge, curly, hair! I'm pretty sure I'm going to just end up looking like regular me plus mascara.
I ended up growing my hair out for my wedding because UPDO, right? But I am such a short haired girl, and Mr. Teenie does so love my hair short, and I ended up finding a cut I loved, and then did a surprise morning-of-the-wedding chop, so as he saw me coming down the aisle, it was the first time he was seeing my little short 'do. The effect was priceless, A+, would do it again.
RE: makeup, I hated wearing so much of it, but the pictures do look great. I just wish it didn't make me feel so wrinkly when I see myself up close in the mirror.
@teenie also that is a BOLD move and I respect it! Smooth stuff.
so, clumsy linking (I'm at home and don't have my html cheat sheet, haha) but here it is...
(also, looking at the pic, facebook somehow took my normal cheek fuzziness and made me look downright whiskery because of file compression - that wasn't a stylistic choice i made, just a dodgy picture)
@teenie This is a fantastic idea. I just bought my dress for our city hall wedding (prob in spring). It's short, royal blue satin with one shoulder strap and would look amazing with my hair bobbed and lightened. I want to get a royal blue birdcage veil to go with it. The combined surprise of the dress and the new hair look would be amazing.
@RocketSurgeon i say go for it! (if you're familiar with having short hair and are not likely to have a panic from the cut). there were a number of gasps when i walked down the aisle, but Mr. Teenie honestly got a little choked up when he said his vows and told me later it was because he was so stoked at my hair and how i looked and how i just knew he would love it and how i did it as a surprise - he said it just manifested all the ways we're perfect for each other :-)
@teenie SO GOOD
@teenie So pretty!
@teenie Oh my gosh teenie, you look so beautiful and glamourous!!
@teenie agreeed you are absolutely gorgeous! no wonder mr teenie got choked up :')
@everyone - thanks so much! awww, now I'M getting choked up :'-)
@teenie You look so, so lovely!!
@teenie You looked gorgeous! The cut is great, and I LOVE your hair ornament!
@Hot Doom (formerly LolaLaBalc) Teenie you look AMAZING! Those earrings are incredible and your hair looks fantaaaastic!!
Oh Jane, you're the Lady Who Knows Stuff about the land of makeup and beauty that I've always wanted as a friend. I know I'd certainly feel less weird babbling on and on about makeup if I had ONE friend to do it with. Oh well! Maybe I'll start a blog or something.
@Bed Monster Chat with me!
I'm the makeup rookie of all the contributors, but we do have a "community" section on the site for foruming and whatnot. :-)
So timely! I'm trying to figure out hair/makeup for my wedding (less than a month! AAAH!)
Also, I love the Betty Draper bun, but I also think it would look wholly out of place with the rest of what I'm wearing so... hrm. Alas. ALSO also, I kind of want a heidi braid.
@Scandyhoovian I loved going to Benefit and getting a wedding makeover--I imagine you could do the same at Sephora? You have to buy stuff, but if you want to do your own makeup you'd need to have stuff anyway, and it meant I could practice--and be in control of how I looked.
@smidge Yeah, I'm going to Bare Escentuals on Sunday to do just that, actually! I would much rather have control over the makeup than try and let someone else do it, plus, it's a good excuse to get new makeup. :)
Hair Romance is doing some serious braid hairspiration at the moment (the blogger just released an ebook called 30 days of braid and it's like $6 or something) - worth a lookie loo for photos that you can show your hair stylist?
She really has a super classy and modern take on braids.
@TARDIStime woops, no linkage: www.hairromance.com
Dang, I don't have the wherewithal to do my own hair for a party, let alone my WEDDING. But the Betty Draper updo would be gorgeous.
I wore an antique lace mantilla veil for my wedding (family heirloom) so my hair looked most like Grace Kelly's. The Betty Draper hair is amazing, though.
Convertible dresses. Unforch, they don't make convertible faces.
@Jane Marie Only for Princess Mombi.
