Do You Need a Fall Project?

Today is the last day to sign up for The Sketchbook Project, "a global, crowd-sourced art project where participants from all walks of life are sent a sketchbook and have until January 15th to fill the pages and return it for inclusion in a traveling exhibition and permanent collection at The Brooklyn Art Library." It's fun, and you can choose from themes like "creatures" or "diagrams" or "upstairs." What is upstairs?

Crap, I've been thinking about sketching again but I really do not have $25 to drop on participating in an awesome sketchbook exhibit. :(

Waooow!!! Really very cool site of blogs. You can imagine what you have done for me.@t

*eeek* I just shared with a graphic artist friend (his book would be full of ghosts, cats and robots and amazing!!), and another who works for a visal artist organization. The paying...less cool, but what can you do if you aren't funded? And the project, so neat!

Faintly Macabre

I'm definitely doing this! $25 isn't too bad if it makes me actually draw instead of amassing a pristine pen and sketchbook collection.

@Faintly Macabre I consider my pristine pen-and-blank-book collection an art piece IN AND OF ITSELF.

Faintly Macabre

@JanieS Does that make Bob Slate and Dick Blick art galleries? Actually, considering how much I coo in appreciation of everything they have on display, I probably already know the answer to that.

@Faintly Macabre Indeed, you have answered your own question.

Ugh you have to pay. Sorry for depriving you of my artistic genius, world. (JK, I have zero hand-eye coordination, my drawings all look like deliberately terrible statements against conventional standards of 2-D beauty.)

Oh man, I think I might get these as gifts for my sister and my Dad. Is that a good plan? I don't want to sign people up for stuff they might not want to do, but at least they'd get a sketchbook, right?

Jane Marie

@OhMarie The sketchbooks are pretty nice, not like super-thick or anything, but nice. Go for it!

If you use the promo code "craftsterbuddies" you get 20% off. I have no idea if that sways anyone in any particular direction.

@Statham Ok. It swayed me.

It swayed me, thanks!

@Statham Awesome, thank you! Glad I caught this comment before checkout, heh

@Danzig! Thank youuuuu! Just checked the comments right before I checked out, because I *knew* SOME 'Pinner was gonna help the rest of us out.

I can only do pale, cumbersome Suprematist imitation drawings, but I am most definitely in this.

Registered! I'm doing "Creatures". Anyone else?

@tea tray in the sky. Couldn't decide, so I deferred.

Oooh I might do this! Glad it's global, I work in an arts and crafts supplies shop in Manchester and haven't done any drawing for ages, which is a crime of laziness considering I can get staff discount on fancy pencils and pens.

Bon Vivant

I'm doing it as well, though I've left my theme as "undecided" for the moment. Thanks for the discount code, Statham! So...it's 32 pages, 64 for all of em? hmm. Cover art? hmm.
Wondering if I'll plan it all out with some over-arching narrative or just use it to make a series of small stories. Anyone else digitizing theirs?

Great project this and can't stop while i read this great article. weight gain tips
