The art + mental illness intersection is such an interesting one.

(I'm not sure how to convey that I don't mean this in a flippant way. So: I don't mean that in a flippant way.)

@Lucienne I agree. That space of creation where personal struggle and existence transcends to become something nearing universality doesn't seem to exist in the same plane as being a functional member of society. Not that they don't overlap but yeah...humanity, fricking fascinating.

I love documentaries on outsider artists and would love to get suggestions. My faves are the pretty popular "Into the realms of the unknown" on Henry Darger and "The devil and Daniel Johnston". Or links to more articles like this!
