Friday Barbie Bin

Don't worry, that's not the end of the story! There are parts two and four as well. Sadly, no part three. Any cool discount codes floating around out there?

We just closed on our house yesterday, so of course have 587 things we need to buy for the new house. Any amazing sales or coupon codes for places like Ace hardware, or the less cool Home Depot or Lowe's? Where do you all do your discount hardware and home goods shopping?

olivebee

@charlesbois For actual home goods, I LOVE Home Goods. Tons of cute decor, linens, furniture, and kitchenware for great prices.

Daisy Razor

@charlesbois Bed Bath & Beyond sends out 20% off coupons all the time. See if you know anyone who doesn't want theirs.

supernintendochalmers

@Daisy Razor They will also usually accept expired coupons, so it pays to stockpile them!

professionalmess

@charlesbois I second Bed Bath and Beyond, and also recommend the discount places like TJ Maxx and Marshalls for the little bits and bobs like vases and such.

quamquam vivit

@charlesbois ROSS sells sharp, name-brand cutting knives for CHEAP.

iseeshiny

@charlesbois The post office carries these change of address packets that have a 10% off Lowe's coupon in them. Our house needed a lot of fixing up. If you come in too often the postal workers start giving you the side eye but whatever, I need drywall.

bombed_pop

@charlesbois if you are doing any kitchen remodel - overstock.com for sinks and faucets - you will save a fortune and there is always a 10-15% off coupon code floating around online. Trust!

hulia

@iseeshiny Also, I'm 90% sure that Home Depot honors competitors' coupons, so if Home Depot is closer to you than Lowe's, you can bring the change of address 10% off into HD instead.

bitchycrosstownexpress

@charlesbois The throw pillow clearance bin at Bed Bath and Beyond is the BEST. Plus, having to physically dig down into the bin to see what's in there makes it feel like you've won something when you unearth one that actually matches your stuff.

my gmail "newsletters" tag has the following to offer up:
JCrew Factory: 25% + free shipping off $150 (Code STYLE25)
Dell is having a sale (up to 57% off!)(which is cruel because I read that as 75%)
Gap's 40% off sale items ends tomorrow.

Anything else exciting?

olivebee

There is no discount code or anything, but if you are looking for high-end, pretty bedding at a giant sale price, Macy's has a lot of their bedding on sale for up to, like, 75% off. My husband and I usually cheap out on, well, everything, including our bedding, so we decided to splurge a little and get this quilt for $180 off the original price.

charlesbois

@olivebee that quilt is insanely gorgeous!

olivebee

@charlesbois Thanks! (Ha, I say 'thanks' as if I made the quilt myself). It's coming in the mail tomorrow, and I am dying to put it on our currently very mismatched and unappealing bed. I found out about that company, Nostalgia, because my company (a web design firm) just signed them as a client and I was scoping out their stuff. There are some other sale quilts on Macy's site that I also thought were very beautiful. If you need any bedding for your new home, definitely look around the site!

The Lady of Shalott

@olivebee Oh my god, yes, Macy's has the best home goods sales. At their end-of-season sales they usually have everything marked down like 50-60%, or 40% off of 30% or outrageous stuff like that. I got a beautiful Calvin Klein duvet comforter there for like $80 that was originally like $200.

20% off at sockdreams.com until the end of November with code: comic2012 -- treat yer feet!

karenb

@vanillawaif oooh and i was just thinking i need new socks for fall, yay!

fb100003964691892

@vanillawaif PERFECT timing. Too perfect, I really shouldn't buy socks. Oh well!

raised amongst catalogs

@Ashley Lange@facebook I know; I keep putting tights in my shopping cart and then deleting them. Ugh!

professionalmess

@vanillawaif Like I needed a reason to buy more tights.

Daisy Razor

15% or 20% (on orders over $75) on top of the sale prices at Old Navy. Sale code is right on the front page.

wee_ramekin

@Daisy Razor And someone already said this, but it bears repeating: 40% off all Gap sale items (in store only).

meetapossum

@Daisy Razor They're also giving $20 coupons if you get $50 of clothes. At least they were yesterday!

frigwiggin

Since I would have posted this on the Bargain Bin anyway, here goes: our office (at a university) has a few student workers who come in a couple times a week and file, man the front desk, etc. etc. Anyway, the other day I noticed one of the students was in a pair of university sweatpants, a university t-shirt, and flip-flops, and it made me have a "KIDS THESE DAYS" moment. Really? I guess we don't have a dress code for them, but she couldn't even put on a nice pair of jeans or something?

professionalmess

@frigwiggin That's kinda ridiculous. I worked on campus the whole time I was in undergrad and always put on real pants at least. Once, I was sick and wore sweats and felt intense guilt all day.

Megasus

@frigwiggin Everyone at my school wore Lululemon yoga pants for everything.

Judith Slutler

@frigwiggin I think I'd say something. Sweats are not work appropriate, I don't care if it is a casual office or not.

RK Fire

@frigwiggin: I am pretty sure I was guilty of this when I worked at my college library. Sometimes I was working when our department wasn't open to the public, and I suspect a lot of times it was because I just came from the pool, but it's no excuse! So for all of us sweatpants-wearers, I say, "I'm sorry."

As a late twentysomething I wear sheath dresses all the time to work now! Hopefully that makes up for it.

frigwiggin

@all Maybe I'm just jealous? Despite not being seen much by the public, our department isn't allowed to wear jeans ever (not even nice ones), and one of my coworkers got sent home to change one time because she wore bermuda shorts to work the day after summer hours were over (we're only ever allowed to wear shorts--NICE shorts--during summer hours, when campus is mostly empty).

I try not to judge people about their clothing choices, it just seemed sloppy, and not something I would have thought about doing at my own college job (although I did normally wear jeans and a t-shirt, because I did elder care and there was a lot of poop involved).

RK Fire

@frigwiggin: It is definitely sloppy! I will say that I think when you are a college student shelving books (a lot of my duties) you are less than worried about seeming professional. On the other hand, since I wasn't in general stacks I wasn't really worried about being confused as a non-working but overambitious students. I worked in the archives portion of the library, so a lot of times I was in this empty corner of school, looking at old copies of comic books or classic sci-fi.

meganmaria

@frigwiggin I saw a woman in the bathroom of my very large, very prominent company wearing loose heather gray capri sweats and an oversized Minnie Mouse t-shirt last week. She literally looked like she had just woken up from a sleep over. Some environments here are a lot more casual, because we have a large manufacturing environment, but this was ridiculous. At least with (most) yoga pants, you can *kiiiiind of* make them look dressier if you put a few minutes of thought into the outfit. And if they're black, not-faded, well fitted yoga pants.

smidge

@frigwiggin I'm starting to feel this way in airports. Like, I understand wanting to be comfortable but, to quote meganmaria, you look like you just came from a sleepover.

Megasus

@smidge OK, airports are the only time it is appropriate, in my opinion, UNLESS you flight is like 2 hours or something.

MilesofMountains

@frigwiggin A friend of mine who manages a video rental place had to tell one of his employees that while he'd allow yoga pants, she wasn't allowed to come in in her pajama pants. Who wears pajamas to work in retail?!

meganmaria

@MilesofMountains Wait! There are still video rental places?

MilesofMountains

@meganmaria There are two in my small town! TWO! And one of them just opened! I don't understand how this can be but there it is.

meganmaria

@MilesofMountains Your town must be going back in time.

supernintendochalmers

@meganmaria There's a bunch of them in Brooklyn! All Mom and Pop stores. Oddly enough they seem to be doing well in the same city where I've seen Blockbusters close.

wee_ramekin

Hahahaha, did Madison make that video? #GodIhopeso

muffalutta

@wee_ramekin I actually thought it might have been
these two.

JANE I BOUGHT THE J CREW SATURDAY PANTS LAST WEEK AND I CAN'T TAKE THEM OFF

Jane Marie

@j-i-a do you need me to come over and help?!?

j-i-a

@Jane Marie A THOUSAND TIMES YES

smidge

Jane! How much longer will Oxfords be fashionable? I really love them and I want to buy a nicer pair that will last me a while but I don't want to blow money on something I'm going to have to hide in a closet for eighty years until they come back.

Jane Marie

@smidge oxfords are forever, but only high-quality non-trendy colored ones. or those ones with giant cut outs. i mean, those are still cute too, but won't be around forever.

Clare

@Jane Marie Are you talking about those minimarket jawns? Because those are dope as hell and I've been waiting for them to go on sale forever and they NEVER DO.

meganmaria

@Clare Why do they want so much money for half a shoe?

Jane Marie

@Clare those look pokey in the back! i like the jeffrey campbell versions with just the hole in the front. but not for winter.

BosomBuddy

@smidge I'd love to talk about this! I'm planning on buying a pair of oxfords and am debating between FRYE Carson and Erin, but I'd love to know about another brand in brown/cognac color. Or hear opinions about my two selections.

smidge

@BosomBuddy Hi! The pair I'm eyeing are from Born. I bought a pair at Payless shoes that actually lasted a while, except now they're getting pinchy and I decided it's time to buy a real pair.

erincpdx

@Jane Marie Totally not pokey in the back, these are sooo comfortable. And now it's fall and I wear them with colored tights and it looks great. I think.

BosomBuddy

@smidge Are they the 'Arletta' ones? Those are quite nice, as are Clarks. I can't tell how trendy the wing-tip styling is, though.

smidge

@BosomBuddy The Ibis. I'm not sure how trendy the wing-tip styling is but I love it, so I'm going with it.

anachronistique

@smidge Thank you for asking, and thank you Jane for answering affirmatively!

VDRE

@smidge I just got a pair from The Horse and I love them, also they're on sale so I didn't feel so bad about having to pay for shipping from Australia.

anachronistique

Eloquii is doing one of its frequent 40% off deals with the code SAVE40.

permanentbitchface

This video reminds me of all of Courtney Stodden's youtube videos.

The Lady of Shalott

@olivebee Oh my god, yes, Macy's has the best home goods sales. At their end-of-season sales they usually have everything marked down like 50-60%, or 40% off of 30% or outrageous stuff like that. I got a beautiful Calvin Klein duvet comforter there for like $80 that was originally like $200.

honeybird

Urban Decay sale is still going on! $17 eyeshadows down to $6 (SIX DOLLARS!), some $3 lipsticks, and palettes for $12-13.

cupcake

Body Shop has 10$ off 20$ - specials included - use code Peach 10
It's good on store too gut you have to print the coupon from Facebook.
Sephora is giving away makeup bags with free deluxe skincare samples - no purchase - you just have to ask for it. That one's good through tomorrow and in store only.
