"Some have dismissed it as a hoax while others reckon it is an elephant lost in the Siberian wilderness. The third theory is the sighting shows a bear eating a huge fish."

Noooope, Chuck Testa.
@The Everpresent Wordsnatcher +100
@The Everpresent Wordsnatcher I <3 you!
ELEPHANT ESCAPED FROM THE ZOOOOOOOO!!!
Definitely a bear with a fish. You can see his chubby bear face!
@lobsterhug Agree. Bear.
@lobsterhug Definitely, definitely a bear shoving a huge fish in its mouth.
@lobsterhug Seriously, seriously for sure a bear. Disappointingly so.
@a5ouncebird I would love it to be a wooly mammoth and I almost could believe it because I just saw a Nova about finding a cache of mammoth and mastodon bones in Colorado and the shape of the bear's behind if very similar!
@lobsterhug My partner works at that museum, and they had a huge event last night where we watched the Nova special on IMAX and then WE GOT TO GO INTO THE BONE ROOM AND TOUCH THE BONES, I HAVE TOUCHED MAMMOTH AND MASTODON SKULLS! #sofuckingmetal
@femme cassidy That is awesome! I'm so jealous.
Ah yes, The Sun. World's most reliable news source.
I love a good hoax as much as anyone, but that's a fucking bear.
I can see how people might see a wooly mammoth, but only if I take my glasses off. Otherwise, it's a fucking bear.
I have been waiting since I was a wee MilesofFoothills to hear the occasional "we could totally make a mammoth out of SCIENCE" musings to become "we totally made a mammoth you guys!" but even I have to admit that's totally a bear.
@MilesofMountains Japan's got you covered. Countdown: four years
@The Everpresent Wordsnatcher Five Words:
Designer Japanese Pygmy Wooly Mammoths.
@Onymous If this was the six-word romance thread, that would need to be Sexy Designer Japanese Pygmy Wooly Mammoth.
@Onymous @Ophelia YES. YES YES YES. Sign me up, I don't care if it will all end in tears (see: Jurassic Park), I WANT ONE.
@MilesofMountains Well, I don't think wooly mammoths are carnivorous, so there is a slightly smaller chance of this ending in quite the same way. I could see it maybe melting into a puddle because they did it wrong though.
I vote bear, but it's sort of an oddly shaped bear, all low in the back like that. Oh! Maybe s/he is seated on a small wheely chair and is pulling her/himself across the river with her/his front legs?
@tortietabbie Perfect.
Any time the filming technique is "pull all the way back and add extra blur!" I'm 100% believing it.
It's the Lagarfljótsormur.
Obviously big foot disgusing him/herself as a bear trying to look like a mammoth.
@Kneetoe: You can tell by the wristwatch.
@Kneetoe Hell to the no. It's a woolly mammoth who wants you to think he's a bear. All the way.
Is it a bear holding a shark? The Cheat's greatest fear.
@Too Much Internet Thank you for this. I've been thinking about Homestar Runner recently because Valentimes Day is coming up.
Fatty Arbuckle with a huge fish?
I will believe LITERALLY ANYTHING but seriously, that's a bear with a fish.
We've reached the point with video technology that that grainy blurry bullshit just won't fly. You want me to believe in your wack-ass woolly mammoth? Let's see the HD, asshole.
@Emby Do they have HD in Siberia though?
Mammoth wearing a bear suit with a fish on its trunk!
so the fish is supposed to be the tusks? if so... that's some seriously floppy tusks.
This is definitely not a bear, no way. Look at the way it walks, no bear walks like that. This is either a mammoth or I think, probably an elephant, but a bear could not lean over like that and that ain't no fish. Get glasses peeps!
At first I was with most of you in that this definitely looked like a bear with a fish hanging out of the mouth. But upon further inspection, by maxing out the video on my 42" TV I was able to see an ear flopping on the side of the head and the brown trunk moving between the two very long white tusks. The snout is way too big to be a bear, the way it walks through the water is so elephant-like, and the back slopes down unlike a bear. If you are able to, watch the video over and over maxed out as big as you can get it and pay attention to the side of the head, when it goes to close up in slow motion you can see the ear flip up. And then pay attention to the tusks (the white-ish part never moves but the brown trunk wiggles between the tusks).
