Beware the Most Relaxing Song of All Time: Marconi Union's "Weightless"

This trance-y eight-minute track by the British ambient-music trio Marconi Union is apparently "more relaxing than a massage, walk or cup of tea," according to a study [commissioned by a "bubble bath and shower gel firm" that has maybe never had a massage].

It is so relaxing — admittedly, it is very relaxing – it might even be dangerous. (The rest of the top 10 most scientifically relaxing songs of all time include classics by Enya and Mozart, for spa playlist-making purposes.)

+1 for "Classics by Enya and Mozart"

ha!

@janedonuts My zone-out incredibly productive writing channel on Pandora is almost entirely Enya and Deuter. I AM SO ASHAMED... not really.

@angermonkey I'm not sure if she's on Pandora, but Zoe Keating is, hands-down, the best productive writing music in the entire world. She loops cello music and it's just beautiful. It's also the only reason I finished grad school. ... And I say this as someone who likes Enya more than I care to admit.

Timely post, Edith. My kid has been bitching all morning (teething.) I put this on, and he passed out in the middle of of the floor.

Auditory benedryl. Awesome.

Can't help it, I keep reading it as Macaroni Union, which sounds delicious.

@Lynna@twitter I love uniting with macaroni!

NeenerNeener

The most relaxing ambient music in the world. Ever.

Just poured myself a glass of red wine, so it's hard to tell whether it's the tune or the wine, but that sure sounds relaxing. Also, a little annoying

Wait, Adele's Someone Like You is one of the top ten relaxing tracks?! I mean, I could see comforting but relaxing? Also, Enya is the real deal. She's been sampled in rap songs.

How long do I have to listen to this track before it gets "We Built This City" out of my head? :(

(Because of the band name.)

Frog Doctress

It's got a heartbeat sound in it... and it sounds a bit like Vangelis. Nice... wish I could sleep... :3 maybe this'll do it...

"Being Enya" is my party piece when drunk.

ATB - Trilogy (Final Chapter) should have topped this list.
