They Jurassic Park'd a Spider, Kind Of

A spider fell into amber 49 million years ago, and this is what he looks like. Amazing. The video has no sound, though, so press this at the same time:

I'd give 10 years of my life for a Jurassic Park 4 with prehistoric spiders. True story: I knelt in the aisle and bowed to the screen on JP3 opening night. It was a dare, though, and the theater was otherwise empty.

Ugh, Edith. Stop it, ugh ugh ugh. That quick dive between those pincer things had me almost retching.

@juliannasays Girl you can't click play and THEN yell at me.

juliannasays (#2,467)

@Edith Zimmerman I am the type of person that picks at scabs. You can't dangle something disgusting in front of me and expect me to not click play.

@juliannasays I just googled "Huntsman spider" and learned they are known as the "giant crab spider". DONT DO IT DONT GOOGLE IT

juliannasays (#2,467)

@juliannasays Ok, not gonna lie, I did google it! BUT! I didn't look at any pictures, and I was comforted by the fact that it's pretty much only found in Australia. WHEW

The best time I ate a tarantula at a bar…

Pound of Salt (#5,637)

I need two mouses; how else am I going to line up the music with the video PERFECTLY?

DorothyMantooth (#1,999)

@Pound of Salt It's actually kind of amazing how well the two match up. Like, way better than The Wizard of Oz and The Wall.

Katie Walsh (#107)

Edith, did you really do that in the theater? That's weird/awesome. Kind of like the Hairpin.

@Katie Walsh Haha. I did! 2001. Crazy days.

Pound of Salt (#5,637)

Also getting dinosaur blood out of an ambered mosquito sounds completely plausible to me.

Anna Marquardt (#2,527)

I saw JP 5 times in the theater, and also this is the best.

DorothyMantooth (#1,999)

Don't huntsmans still exist in Australia, Land of All Things Most Terrifying? I remember ages & ages ago reading something in a ladies' mag about some hapless woman finding A Huntsman in My Handbag, or something like that, and I've been grateful to not live in Australia ever since.

JoeyT (#3,859)

@DorothyMantooth They're still around in the US too, but only Hawaii and the Gulf Coast. I think they stop just south of the Tennessee line and just east of Texas. If you get regular snow in the winter, you probably won't have them.

laurel (#111)

@DorothyMantooth Yes. They do. It's hard to check your email on your friend's parents' computer when one of those giant motherfuckers is climbing down the wall toward you.

I love spiders, I really do, and huntsmans are totally harmless and beneficial in their predation habits but ohmygod they're huge forfuxake.

to blend JP and the Rapture post…my sister just emailed to ask me, "if the Rapture happens really fast, does that make it the Velocirapture?" :)

Emma K@twitter (#4,538)

They made a JP 2 and 3?

I am supposed to make dinner, but I'm just gonna watch this over and over. And then, when the guests arrive, I'm going to make them watch it a few times. THANK YOU!

E (#2,819)

Oh is it Spider Thursdays at the Hairpin again already? How quickly the week does pass!

janeminty (#1,659)

@E I missed Spider Thursday, but wanted to submit this oldie but goodie anyway:

Quick Brown Fox (#4,716)

Not gonna lie, I totally love the Jurassic Park theme song.

Helly (#6,221)

I can't watch, I really tried but… the horror. I had to turn it off and just listen to Jurassic Park theme song to bring me back round.
