Prostitutes and New York

"I followed 290 women, 170 of whom made enough (at least $30,000) to separate them from streetwalkers. I spent at least 12 months earning their trust, trying not to ask a lot of prying questions. Once they realized I wasn’t a cop or social worker, they usually told me their stories." —Many things you wanted to know about the current state of prostitution in New York City can be found in Sudhir Venkatesh's excellent Wired feature. Plus did you know prostitutes prefer BlackBerrys and that 9% of them have day jobs in the publishing industry? [Via]

Well now I know not to get a handy in New York. Why do I have the feeling that a hand job in Utah would be so much cheaper?

Is it wrong for me to not be surprised that Murray Hill as of last year is so densely populated with escorts?

And what about Facebook?

That's less surprising, but shows more entrepreneurial gusto.

"No self-respecting cosmopolitan man looking for an evening of companionship is going to lean out his car window and call out to a woman at a traffic light."

Ya hear that STC?????

If you know an easier way to get my mom and sister back into the El Camino, I'm all ears kneetoe.

I've always found getting them OUT of the back seat of my car the hard part.

Why the price difference north of 14th street?

Also, I think there should be a book called: "All I need to know about New York hookers I learned from Law & Order".

Cops don't pay, they tin 'em.

I'm assuming three-ways cost so much on Wall Street because of Patrick Bateman.

Should I be sad that someone gets paid more to give a hand job than i get paid for two days work? Um. Actually. Probably not.
